The W580i operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. The W580i Walkman phone offers a full-function digital audio player that's compatible with MP3 and AAC files. The front of this slider phone includes dedicated music control buttons, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. With Shake control activated, press and hold the Walkman key and flick your wrist. A vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played. With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. Other Walkman features include MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC. It also includes a built-in FM radio with RDS, which displays the name of the currently playing song (when tuned to compatible radio stations). This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. All around good phone July 3, 2008

I've had my w580i for a little over 2 months now and it has been working great. The keypad is easy to use, and the screen is very bright and attractive. I've gotten good battery life with this phone. A charge usually lasts 3 to 4 days, probably because I talk about an hour each day, I rarely text, and I set the screen brightness to 80%. I love the camera, which includes a panoramic feature. The menu is straight-forward and easy to navigate.
At first I was a little skeptical about the slider design, but I find it's easy to open and close one-handed. The only downside I can find about this phone is the darn M2 memory card slot. Why can't Sony just go with the cheaper, mainstream MicroSD cards?

i bought two of these phones 4 months ago for my older teenagers..within 2 mths my sons buttons had begun to crack, i called att and they told me they would replace the phone, they sent a new one. within 3 weeks the buttons cracked and half of the number 1 key fell off.. because it fell off they would not replace it again, i argued for over an hour at which time they sent me a different piece of junk phone which my son hated. he had waited forever for a new phone and now is sorely disappointed. my daughters phone has been a nightmare, the screen freezes and now the bottom half is permanently black, 3 of the buttons have fallen off and they won't do anything about it . now even offer a replacement piece of junk phone...this is the most cheaply made phone i have ever seen..you get excited cuz at first it seems amazing! but do not be fooled!

I'll keep this simple, this phone is great. If you have average-sized hands then you will love this. The only problem is that Sony used its proprietary M2 Memory Stick (micro) which is more expensive than say microSD, miniSD, etc...

The only complaint I have with this phone is that I can't listen to the radio through a pair of stereo A2DP bluetooth headphones. I'm glad that I bought the Jabra BT 620s and its A120s music adapter, or I still would be listening to the radio through the wires.
This combination doesn't work so well when you pair the headphones with the phone and the adapter. Trying to answer a call was a headache because the phone, the heaphones, and the adapter had all kinds of communication problems.
But when I took the radio attachment out and just paired the headphones to the phone, I could listen to MP3s and easily talk on the phone (not simultaneously, of course).
So my hope for the future of the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones is that the radio attachment becomes integrated with the actual phone. I've owned the W600i, and my main complaint with that phone was also about the radio attachment.
But they're still great phones. All the features work great. I love the step counter. My hands are small, so I haven't had trouble with dialing or keys breaking.

This phone is a big disappointment. After having it for 2 months the buttons have cracked in half and the screen freezes up. Iam a huge fan of Sony Ericson because of their durability. This phone has no durability at all.
