DVD? October 6, 2008 Paul J. Tomlin (edmonds, WA USA) It sure would be nice if this movie were to become available on DVD or Blu-Ray it it's original theatrical widescreen release. Remastered sound and picture, if necessary, would be great, too. This is one of Paul Newman's best films. Looking forward to the day.
Another five star review! March 17, 2008 Cheryl (Philly) I never saw the Leonard Maltin review that's being referenced in the comments here, but I have to agree that this is one terrific movie. It's long been a favorite due to the intricasies of the story, the terrific acting all around, and the nuances that make it fun to watch over and over again. I also wish it could be had in DVD format.
Harry Frigg at His Best February 8, 2008 K. E. Harrison (Vancouver, WA) One of Paul Newman's better "tongue in cheek" movies. Brought back fond memories of military service and some of the higher echelon's behavior. Would like to see this movie in a DVD format.
The Secret War of Harry Frigg October 1, 2005 James P. Winters (NE Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Movie is well worth the few dollars paid for it. If you like WWII movies with a light comic twist to it then this is for you. I don't know why sequals were neve made of this move its that good.
Humorous and entertaining April 22, 2001 John R. Bridell (Minneapolis, MN USA) 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
This was a fun movie for my grandchildren and us ex-WWII guys, but the casting of Harry Frigg could have been better. Newman just wasn't the comedian for this role. Jack Nicholson could have handled Frigg's role better. Newman couldn't decide which character he was; viz., a lazy skylarking blubberhead, a crafty noncom everlasting Army Private, a savvy Army con artist, an underpriviledged Mensa candidate . . . or who? Depite Newman's acting problems, the film was humorous and entertaining. You'll laugh at the generals, the Italian captors, and the Nazis.
