I have been using this program since the late 90's and it has been excellent and continues to improve over time.

1 out of 5 stars microsoftWhy sell software that will not work   November 29, 2008
Dennis Proudlove
I received great service from Amazon. Very good service and very good price. Having said that Microsoft has sold software that will not work. I have Vista on my laptop and was concerned after receiving Streets and Trips my menory was too small because the software gave a error message "Your registry settings were not copied correctly". I purchased and installed an additional 1G. of Ram. I uninstalled the software and reloaded it. SAME ERROR MESSAGE. Then I call Microsofts Tecnical phone number. I have spoken to three tecnitions and spent over three hours of my time as well as their time. As I type this I am waiting for another level 2 technition to call me. If this does not work, I will call Amazon to ask for a refund and they can deal with Microsoft and there CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

3 out of 5 stars State road is not Senior!   November 29, 2008
John R. Hattersley
It is good but when giving audio directions every time it refers to a state road it says "SENIOR". I find this confusing.

1 out of 5 stars Beware - Missing Pushpin Icons!!   November 26, 2008

I've been using S&T for a number of years now and just installed the 2009 version. My first reaction was "What happened to all my pushpin icons??" Well...Microsoft in all their wisdom reduced the icon set from over 300 to 45 (an 85% reduction) - no more numbers, flags, letters, stand-out colors and other key indicators. What is even better is that if you have used any of the deleted icons in your map your left with a generic pushpin. So now my map is covered with little black ants (...uh pushpins).

Other than the pushpin fiasco and some cosmetic tool bar GUI changes (a step backward) I could not see any differences between the 2008 and 2009 versions - there were some street additions but misplaced locations had not been corrected.

Oh. . . And those entertainment coupons - that's only a 14 day trial membership.

All in all, I'll unload this version and re-install 2008. Remember to copy your map to another location - because once you save it with the 2009 version there is NO going back!

Hey Microsoft - how about just a Database upgrade option instead of a version change!

3 out of 5 stars Still the best just not their best   November 25, 2008
M. Arens (Indy)
This is the best for planning a trip. This time however as Microsoft is prone to doing. They have changed things for the sake of change. They have removed the BACK function. Which is handy after you plot a route. The icons are very limited from past versions. And I question the validty of their construction information. As I know of a major bridge that was out here for eight months and never appeared on here. The buttons on the menu bars are cute. Icons and descriptions from saved routes don't transfer nicely. I would rather have my 08 version back. But of course the construction data quite updating after a year.
