4 out of 5 stars Basic but does the job well   December 2, 2008

The product and software seem to work well enough....once in a while however I do get a hickup. It tells me an internal encoder error has occurred. No idea what that is but it doesn't seem to affect anything actually. Other than that I like its simplicity.

5 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Gem   November 27, 2008

I bought this video capture unit with very low expectations...I mean, what would you expect for $35? But it blew me away! I am so happy with how well it works that I had to write a review on Amazon, which I hardly EVER do! It couldn't be any easier to use...just plug S-video or RCA video cable from your VCR or DVD player into the Diamond device, plug it into a USB port, and start recording.

The included video capture software has a lot of flexibility, allowing you to determine the quality of the digital recording (and thus, the file size), as well as the ability to "fix" problems with the input. For instance, I bought this device specifically to digitize old VHS tapes -- some of which go back to the late 80's. Needless to say, most of them have suffered some degradation of film quality over the years. But the software allowed me to modulate the darkness and contrast, change the color balance, and sharpen the image. The final product was fairly impressive!

Is this a full-blown digital video editing studio? No, of course not. But for $35, I was able to convert all of my tired old VHS tapes to DVDs with very little effort and excellent results

4 out of 5 stars Good Product -- NO Vista X64 Support   November 25, 2008

Products works as advertised except I have failed to get it to work with Vista 64 bit.

I never even installed the driver on the disk included but instead got the x64 driver off their website. The device shows up as installed and running in device manager but will never initialize when their software loads. Nothing on their site references the errors I recieve.

I put the same device on my 32 bit version of Vista and it runs fine.

Device has a smooth frame rate and the software included is easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to set up   November 25, 2008

Very easy to install the software and use the device. Worked fine with an older VCR. Very user-friendly - easy to understand how to set up preferences and settings. Performed exactly as described.

5 out of 5 stars works perfectly   November 24, 2008
Michal Reed (Springville, CA USA)
When I read the reviews I wasn't hopeful that this item would work, but some reviewers said that it worked as I needed it to, so I gave it a try. It was just what I needed. I can now show VHS and DVD through my computer to a mounted LCD projector. Easy to set up and very much worth the price.Diamond VC500 One Touch Video Capture Device
