4 out of 5 stars Best of 5   October 24, 2008
Dennis G. Lowry (Indianapolis)
I have 4 other analog video converters or capture devices and this is the first one that really works. It is the first firewire which seems to eliminate conflicts and input speed. The box works perfectly except it should have a pass-thru for the analog signal and it could use a better on/off switch. It has to be rebooted occasiionally and the switch is weak. I have two of these boxes and I love them. A better switch and the pass-thru would make it perfect. Capturing video is a lot tougher than you might think. This box does it very well. Perfect service from Amazon, as usual.

4 out of 5 stars A good buy   June 7, 2008
P. Fox (Chicago, IL USA)
Overall I am very pleased with this box. I bought it to output After Effects frames and renders to an external NTSC monitor for color correction and it does a great job. (Though I would re-iterate the complaints about the lack of a 4-to-6 pin cable. ADS should have included only a 6-to-6 pin cable and two 4-to-6 pin adapters. Which I ended up buying at a local Target after the box arrived).

I would have preferred to have one of the old Sony DVMC-DA1(2) boxes, but they no longer produce them. It was half the size, and handled input and output through the same connections, allowing you to use half of the cabling and deal only with rewiring the devices at hand when necessary.

Hopefully ADS or Sony read this and start to produce boxes like that again. However in this USB 2.0 marketplace, I doubt that they'd bother. There are more expensive, pro-level devices that perform as well or better in the Firewire domain and the market is more limited.

4 out of 5 stars Just as expected   May 16, 2008
Alan K. Andrade (LA)
This product works great, just as expected. I have been using it to enconde all my VHS and 8mm old tapes. It came with a little on/off switch problem, but I managed to get around that by leaving it always on, and just unplugging it from the outlet. The Adobe software that comes along with it is a MUST. It has a lot of features, and makes you feel like a pro. Definetly a good acquisition.

1 out of 5 stars No Locked Audio!   January 13, 2008
Bookin' in Brooklyn (Brooklyn, NY United States)
I'm sorry I bought this converter, as it does not have locked audio... and as a result, sync drifts over time.

I'm now using the product below, which does not have this problem.

The Canopus adapter does.

1 out of 5 stars Poor video sync, faulty power switch   November 4, 2007
B. Bauer (Glendale, CA USA)
I am generally disappointed in the operational quality of this product. The Analog video input worked poorly with the two Sony cameras I tried. The ADS fails to lock sync about 50% of the time. The interface with the software control from iMovie is also partially dysfunctional. When I called ADS technical support they were quick to blame the cameras and the iMovie software saying the Pyro A/V Link was operating properly. After a couple of weeks the power switch now fails to latch most of the time. At least this should provide reasonable cause for a warranty fix.
