Using the Quicktionary 2 Premium is simple--just scan the text you want to translate by moving the optical scanning head over the printed text, as if you are highlighting it. The Quicktionary 2 Premium can recognize a wide range of font types and sizes (from 6-22 points, up to 8mm), as well as various color schemes, including inverted text on colored backgrounds (with the exceptions of red on white, white on red, blue on black, and black on blue.) After scanning, the LCD displays both the scanned text and the word by word translation. This process takes mere seconds and is faster than searching through a paper dictionary or typing it into electronic ones. Now, instead of getting distracted by words you don't know and spending time looking them up, you can stay focused on your reading. The Quicktionary 2 Premium is smart enough to translate not just individual words, but also phrases and idioms. It identifies inflected words and displays their corresponding entries. The Premium Chinese version of the Quicktionary 2 can recognize both English and Chinese Simplified text, letting you translate in both directions. This product is basically a failure for the following reasons:
(1) Installation is very confusing. When it is done, nothing works. I had to manually change many settings to make it "work".
(2) When it works, it is very sloooooooow, especially when you want to scan something directly into your PC. You may type faster than using this pen with much higher accuracy.
(3) The instruction booklet does not match what one sees on the product. You get lost after following the instructions.
(4) The driver coming with the package does not work with Vista 64 bit, but the correct driver is nowhere to fine, unless the company sends you a link. After I installed the "correct" driver, it still did not work well.
(5) The company claims that it can scan Chinese characters into PC, but instead it only sent alien codes from outer space into my PC. I called the company, but was told they could not read Chinese; and therefore, they could not help!
