Not quite what I needed, but I found a gem December 15, 2004 Minh-Dat Nguyen (Montreal, Canada (for now)) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Bought one of those in an attempt to resolve a HDCP conflict between my Denon 2910 and RCA Scenium HDLP50W151, flashing every 5 seconds on DVI-HDCP, and, at the same time, allow me to switch between the DVD and computer. This, following RCA's recommendation to change the connector for better signal. I figure I would use the switcher as signal amplifier.
Did not work, flashing remained. Called Gefen Tech Support, and in about 5 minutes he diagnosed the issue to incompatibility between Denon (HDCP 1.1) and RCA (HDCP 1.0) - the RCA was too slow to respond to the periodic HDCP challenges from the Denon, so the Denon shut off signal until he got the responses, in a perpetual on/off sequence.
They suggested I send back my HDTV switcher and get their new HDMI switcher, with the appropriate adaptors & cables, because the HDMI switcher has "buffered HDCP" vs the HDTV switcher's "pass-through HDCP".
Well, it took 2 weeks to do the exchange with the mail etc..., but I got it, it worked perfectly as advertised, and the picture is great, and I couldn't be happier.
Positives: (both switchers) - Well thought of, works as advertised, incorporated amps work flawlessly, transparent. - Discrete IR codes program easily onto my universal remote - (HDMI switcher only) Life saver, resolves one of the dark secrets of the HDCP standardS, if you have this issue now you know what to do. - Seems sturdy (metal casing, well made, no plastic)
Negatives: (both switchers) - Small, easily de-stabilized by the weight of the cables - Source LEDs (1/2, indicate which input is active) too close to one another, difficult to see from a distance - (HDTV only) One DVI connector in the front, just plain ugly. THe HDMI switcher is much nicer, all connections in the back, only the front panel with LEDs and switch is visible from the front.
