It has a very earthy, grounding character with well resolved tones, both low and high. The bull's-eye pattern of the chao gong is the result of grinding away the fire-darkened surface to reveal the bright brass color. Made in China.

I bought this as a gift as an upgrade - I'd given a friend a triangle to ring upon completion of a task and she had tasks that deserved a richer sound - - SO I got her the GONG!
I'd LOOKed at it but didn't want to submit a review until SHE told me how SHE liked it.
WELL, she LOVES it!! It's rich sounding and handsome to look at -
