5 out of 5 stars DT's the best   December 12, 2008
Mohamed Ezzat (Utopia)
Simply, DT is the best, but the need to get a good photographer, film director whatever cause every single time I buy DT DVD, I get really mad, Mike Portnoy is a very very very very good drummer, but he's a very bad director, he can't be a film maker, Portnoy please stop & pay some money for a good director to take care of your DVDs'.
Whenever Petrucci starts any solo, I wanna see his hands, his performance, but I find camera man's focusing on Portnoy, audience, or anything but Petrucci, & sometimes they get the worst camera, worst resolution on Petrucci, WTF !!
Still DT music is the best I can't tell how much I love their music.

5 out of 5 stars Great sound quality; Amazing set list   November 29, 2008
a patriot (the Bronx)
I don't think that I like this live Dream Theater album better than "Live at Budokon" but the set list is awsome. These are some of my favorite D.T. songs. Of course, this being a Dream Theater album, the sound quality and musicianship are phenomenal.

I think that this would be a good place to start for a non-fan. The set list is excellent and contains a very diverse collection of music from D.T.'s entire career - including five tracks from thier latest (and best?) studio album. Also, my two favorite D.T. songs are included in this album: "The Ministry of Lost Souls", and "In The Name of God".

The only negative things that I can say about this album it that "Blind Faith" sounded a little weird, and that the album is a compilation of shows rather than one concert. There is a different vibe about a live album that takes place on one night - you feel like you were really there.

Here is what I said about Dream Theater (my favorite band) in another review:

There is somthing else that I love about Dream Theater - besides the music itself. It is the fact that if you are a D.T. fan, your band doesn't dissapoint you. Almost every rock band ends up sucking a little more with each album; You never get what you really wanted. With D.T., I can honestly say that I have watched the band get better and better with each album. They have never let me down. If they are going to release a new album, I have confidence that it won't suck and when I see them live, I know that I will be blown away.

Once I started listening to Dream Theater, years ago, I found it hard to listen to mainstream rock. It just bores me. D.T. has elevated rock music to it's highest level so far. They are almost "beyond" rock music. For me, Dream Theater's music is more like great classical music - it's beautiful, profound and complexed, not just entertaing.

Until the day I die, I will never forget the time I saw Dream Theater live at Jones Beach, in the summer of 2007. It was the best concert experiance of my life; I practically floated out the arena afterwards. They sounded incredible and played some of my all-time favorite songs.

Thank you SO much Dream Theater, for working so hard to please your fans and for writting incredible music for the past 20 years.

4 out of 5 stars CD's are great, DVD only recommended for die-hard fans.   November 3, 2008

I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition before knowing I could get the mp3s from the CDs at Amazon. I give it four stars just because of the CDs.

The production of the first DVD is not the best (haven't seen the second one). As another review states, is not Score. I would say image quality is not for today's big HDTVs. The audio doesn't sound live, you can't hear the crowd. Still, I have to say, it was great to somehow revive the experience of being in a show from their 2007 tour.

What I didn't like is that if feels as if this DVD was never planned, but at the last moment, they came up with any footage they had and tried to put it together.

I would say: If you're a die-hard fan, get it. If not, get the audio and buy the Score DVD.
