"Gotta catch 'em all," shouts teen-popper (and 1999's Buckner & Garcia) Billy Crawford on this kid-phenom soundtrack. Engineered to capture not only preteen fans of the Japanese anime craze, but Top 40 listeners who might fall for singles such as girl group M2M's peppy "Don't Say You Love Me," it's loaded with familiar zillion-selling names such as Britney Spears, 'N Sync, Christina Aguilera, and 98 Degrees. A mixture of light dance-pop, innocuous romantic ballads, and "Eye of the Tiger" drama keeps things moving. G-rated through and through, the disc's nonstop chirpiness might eventually wear on parents' ears even as they acknowledge the catchy hooks.  A good listen if you enjoy late 90's teen pop September 3, 2008

This soundtrack is labeled as "music from and inspired by the motion picture," but it's more accurate to say it's "music from the motion picture, and some random songs that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie whatsoever." At least two of songs on the soundtrack were released eight months to a year before the movie and soundtrack were released. Also, out of the sixteen songs on the soundtrack, only six make some kind of appearance in the film: Billy Crawford's rendition of the Pokemon theme, M2M's "Don't Say You Love Me," Christina Aguilera's "We're a Miracle," Vitamin C's "Vacation" (which appeared in the "Pikachu's Vacation" short), Angela Via's "Catch Me if You Can," and Blessid Union of Souls' "Brother My Brother."
By looking at the artists included on the disc, it's very clear the target audience for this soundtrack was kids. Besides the artists mentioned above, there is also Britney Spears, B*Witched, *NSYNC, Emma Bunton (from the Spice Girls), 98 Degrees, Aaron Carter, Billie, Mandah (now known as Willa Ford), and Ashley Ballard.
When I listened to this CD, the only standout tracks to me were the songs by M2M, Christina Aguilera, Vitamin C, Angela Via, Midnight Songs, and Blessid Union of Souls. Billy Crawford's version of the Pokemon theme wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. The remaining songs on the disc just sounded like generic throwaway late 1990's teen pop songs.
If you're a Pokemon fan who wants to own every Pokemon-related item, then this CD is for you. If you're a fan of the late 1990's American teen pop sound, then you might also find this to be an enjoyable CD. If you're a fan of one of the artists on the CD, and their song included here is hard to acquire elsewhere, you would probably have an interest in this disc. But if you don't fall into one of these three categories, then you probably won't have much of an interest in this soundtrack.

Back when the movie came out, I was a gushy preteen who was, like everyone else, obsessed over the Pokemon fad. I got this CD from a friend (I think I traded like 60 pokemon cards to get it, all Bulbasaurs and Caterpies, ha! We're stupid as kids, aren't we?) and fell in love with the songs. My favorites were, and still are, "Making My Way (Any Way That I Can)," "It Was You," and "Don't Say You Love Me."
I'm not a fan of pop songs, especially TODAY's pop songs/singers, but this music got to me as a kid and brings back good memories today as I still listen to it. Wonderful music, catchy, and terribly addictive. But there's only one problem.
What do ANY of the songs have to do with POKEMON!?!?!?
Let's take a look at the track listing:
First up we have the Pokemon Theme performed by Billy Crawford. All right, that seems normal enough. A nice rendition of the Pokemon Theme to start off a Pokemon soundtrack (though I actually liked the version from the first season better, call me crazy).
Number two is M2M's "Don't Say You Love Me." ... Well, last time I watched the movie (it's been awhile, correct me if I'm wrong), there didn't seem to be any sort of "love" theme that FITS this song. I get the whole brotherly love theme the movie throws out there at the end, but what does THAT have to do with a song about a guy moving too fast in a relationship? Looking at the music video, apparently the song is loosely tied to the fact that the couple in the song went to see the Pokemon movie and he made a move on her...? Not my idea of a great first date, going to a kid's movie, but ah, what do I know. Or maybe it's a song about Pokemon breeding. Sure.
Number three is "It Was You" By Ashley Ballard, and is one of the few songs that I can actually see fitting the movie. Imagine Pikachu with a female voice singing to Ash. Or the other way around. Nice image there.
Next up is "We're A Miracle" by Christina Aguilera. It was actually in the movie itself at the end, and it fits the theme well enough but would do better with someone else singing it. And a more upbeat tempo. I just don't picture Ash and Pikachu being all lovey to the tune of this song. They should have just stuck with "It Was You" and left this on off the listing and out of the movie altogether, it's less mushy. That goes for N'Sync's "Somewhere, Someday," too.
Lumping a few together, we have Britney Spears with "Soda Pop," B*Witched with "Get Happy," Baby Spice's "Free Up Your Mind," 98 Degrees' "Fly With Me," and Aaron Carter's "Fun With The Funk." Maybe I'm missing something here, but these songs have NOTHING to do with the Pokemon movie, or Pokemon itself. But I'll be nice and give the benefit of the doubt; maybe "Soda Pop" is about Pokemon having a refreshing beverage (maybe it goes with the Pikachu's vacation mini-movie, like "Vacation" by Vitamin C does). And "Get Happy" could be about Team Rocket going to a party. "Free Up Your Mind" maybe goes along with psychic Pokemon, "Fly With Me" goes with Pidgeys and other flying Pokemon, and "Fun With The Funk" could be... forget it. They have nothing to do with Pokemon. Period.
So let's look at what DOES work. "Pokemon Theme," "It Was You," "We're A Miracle (though I hate including this one)," "Lullaby (Jigglypuff!)," "Vacation (because of that boring mini-movie)," "Catch Me If You Can (this one actually has Pokemon in the lyrics!)," "If Only Tears Could Bring You Back (for the boo-hoo fest at the end of the movie)," and "Brother My Brother (from the movie itself, also for the boo-hoo fest at the end.) That's eight songs out of sixteen that actually have anything to do with Pokemon. Why hasn't anyone ever noticed this? Why does it matter? They're all great songs, for the most part, and because they're so nostalgic to me I'm compelled to give the album a 4-star rating, when really it only deserves a 3. Pokemon music should be about POKEMON, not guys feeling up girls in movie theaters and songs about soda. I hate loving this music.

Ok, I do remember back then my happy days on 1999 when I first saw this movie (at the cinema 2 times, at the TV like 4 times...) and I was dazzled, I wanted everything about it.
Of course, mom and dad weren't (And are still not too much...) flattered with the Pokemon idea, so I fetched the Disk from a Friend.
When I first heard it... ok, there's the Pokemon theme song, good. M2M's "Dont' say you love me" is actually the coolest song from the disk and "Vacation" is quite refreshing. People should also listen carefully to the "Brother my Brother" lyrics (specially at this time *rolls eyes*). Then.... I came upon the Japanese version of the Movie (which I luv) and the Disk and I completely noticed that the rest of the songs where actually (and I knew it from the begining) C-R-A-P.
Yes, that "c" word, since unfortunally, there in America they tend to... well yeah.. Americanize stuff, so they placed things like Britney Spears, N*Scync... blah blah blah.. and they made songs which are NOT part or even have to do with the movie (ok... I understand the title "soda pop" but... did Britney even nows what it actually does?)
So, if you want to remember nolstalgia from that time, or you're just a cunning fan buy it or download the song clips at some webpages... if not GET THE JAPANESE VERSION and you'll see what I'm talking about.

This is a Pokemon CD(duh).Like the other Pokemon CDs,it has pop music.As it might make your ears bleed if you don't like pop music,and but few songs are actully about Pokemon,this is outstandingly awesome to me.
Being...me...I couldn't care less what other people think negativly about me.Ya,I'm a pokemaniac,and I listen to pop music(well,really the only pop music I listen to are my 3 Pokemon CDs),so what?
I baught this CD when it came out back in 1999,'bout 7 years ago.I was 4 years old.I loved Pokemon since it came out.And,8 years later,3 to 11,toddler to pre-teen,yada,yada,yada,I love it even more.Every day I listened to this CD.Untill it got lost.It got lost when I was 7 or 8.Since then,I was dying.Finally,I decided to buy a new one.Now,though,I hear it diffrently.When I was younger,I'd listen to just about anything.Now for some reason this CD is better.
I love most of the songs.
1.Pokemon Theme-This is the extended version of the one on 2BA Mater.But it's more pop-like then technopop-like.
2.Don't Say You Love Me-The only reason they put this on the CD is because in the music video,these people are at one of those theaters where you watch it in your car,and they're watching the Pokemon The First Movie(which this is a soundtrack of (duh)).Nevertheless,this is my favorite song.
3.It Was You-Hmm...I guess this is okay.
4.We're a Miricle-They played this after the movie.Okay,the person singing this is really bad.I barely like this song.
5.Soda Pop-Britney Spears?What were they thinking?!
6.Somewhere,Someday-Average,I guess.Not my top 5,but...whatever.
7.Get Happy-I LOVE THIS SONG!This is my second favorite.It's so cheerful,you can imagine.Awesome.Gotta listen to it 7 times a day.If not,more.
8.(Hey You)Free Up Your Mind-this is one of the songs played after this movie.It's pretty good,would be better if it wasn't mostly "free up your mind" over and over.If you hear the whole song,you'll see what I mean.
9.Fly With Me-Okay.umm...that's all I can think of.
10.Lullaby-o_0...I like this.
11.Vacation-this is the extended version of it played on Pikachus' Vacation.
12.Makin' My Way (Anyway That I Can)-Average.(I'm running out of things to say!)
13.Catch Me If You Can-Extended version of the one played on Pikachus' Vacation.I don't really even know myself if I like this better or not.
14.(Have Some)Fun With The Funk-Really?Serosly?AARON CARTER?!?!Sounds like a girl.Begging of the song isn't...very good,but the rest is Okay.

Okay,sorry,I forgot to put who sung the songs.You can just check above the page,on the sampler thing.If I messed anything up,it's because I typed all the from heart(I memoriezed all the songs).I'm trying to make it sound like I'm not sexist,but I reccomend girls get this.Mostly girls sing,then the rest are boy bands.But boys can get it if they want to.Who's stopping them?
Well(whew),that review was longer than expected.I wanna be a writer when I'm older.I rock at that(heheh)....did I forget anything...?I'll put it down in another review.
