Easy to put together, not so easy to compost April 24, 2008 Stephanie Manley (Houston, TX) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have had this composter for about two years now. I can honestly say this was very easy to put together. I am not technically inclined, and generally I don't read the directions. I put together this unit in less than 30 minutes. For me, and my yard this wasn't the best choice I feel I could have made.
One large drawback on this composter is that it does not turn the waste itself. You get to stir up the wastes if you want it to go faster. I found this at times difficult to do with the mass of materials inside the composter. You didn't have many options other than shoveling out materials and then putting them back in there. I think that this lack of ease of rotation of material inside made the compost slow.
I had this composter in Houston, Texas. I believe I was only able to harvest compost about three times out of here in two years. I had a yard with some shade, and unless I was very diligent about the rotation inside the composter it was a slow process despite the warm climate. I could only recommend this particular composter if you are willing to do the manual labor to keep the process going quickly. Otherwise, I think you are better off with the models that rotate the waste for you.
