Product Description Born the daughter of an Irish chieftan circa 453 AD Saint Bridgid became a nun whose desire was to relieve the misery and hardship of the poor. Her feast day, the date of her death is February 1st. The popular tradition of the woven St Bridgid cross is believed to have begun during a visit by Bridgid to a dying pagan chieftan. To illustrate the significance of the Christian faith she quickly wove a simple cross from the rushes strewn on the floor covering of the time. Couldn't find St Brigid's Cross in Silver in Ireland May 13, 2008 Wandering Colorado Girl (Virginia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I heard the story of St Brigid years ago, my first visit to Ireland. My last trip I looked for it in sterling silver and couldn't find it. I can't believe I found this on Amazon. The cut is precise and just a perfect size. I bought a 20" chain as well and they are perfect together. A great buy!
Brief history and recomendation November 4, 2007 H. Dean Shotwell (Corbin, KY USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
St. Brigid is the female patron saint of Ireland. The original cross was woven from reeds for a Celtic chieftain on his deathbed. I love the detail on the pendant and would recomend this to anyone looking for a unique cross or jewelery.

Abstracted design captures the feeling of the original rushes, better than those that try and duplicate the real thing.
Very nice - but small May 12, 2007 Stephen B. Lambeth (Jersey) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
