Sony , crank it up December 30, 2007 Carl G. Hokanson This little Sony does the job, I love it's size and sound and that it uses crank power to keep it running. It has some trouble with tuning out the local chanels that overwelm the FM band width in my area. The AM band has limited chanels in my area. Volume is good and it seems to play forever on one cranking charge, I love to carry it around when I move rooms I'm in . I can't wait to use it in the garden outdoors. This is a quality product and it will remind you of the good times of listening to early transistor radios when you were young, Best of all batteries not included, OR needed, It's Eco friendly and that makes it great for today's needs. Very Happy with it, the price was good and I received it very fast!
Beauty of a product !! November 14, 2007 Dibakar Bose 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this emergency radio a few days back for the use in India and it is the most beautiful radio I have ever used. I have always been a keen buyer of sony products and this product hasn't let me down at all. It works for more than 40 minutes ...rather it has been working for the last 2 days with just single charge. The flash light and the soft light are fine and they don't effect the reception while working. This is just a great radio and I just love it.
Great emergency and daily radio! August 23, 2007 J. Zhang (NYC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The cell phone charger was purely the mistake of Amazon, and Sony nevre advertised that function. The radio is great, esp the reception is excellent. the sound is fine, considering the size of the radio. the two tone lights are so good. I do love this radio. The generator can provide exceptionally long time of power supply to both radio and lights. I have been using this unit for about 10 days, and it is still running on the first charge. I think Sony understates the generator of this radio.

Where to start ... This is a very funtional little radio,,its a good size ,the dial is clear and well calibrated,The knobs and switches are all easy to use,,Its shape sits up well on uneven surfaces,, the speaker is about what you'd expect for around 2" although it seems like it could be louder,it can"t be turned up far enough to distort, and is a little hard to hear in loud invirons thay may have limited the volume for battery life, the sound quality is good ,I listen to jazz and news its fine for all that
the sensitivity and selectivty are both up to sony standerds thay are by far my favorite analog radio,(their digitals are too voltage picky for me, I want to kill a set of batterys ,not shut down at the first wheeze) I live about half way between Seattle and Portland in the extreem fringes of both markets, most days I can pick and choose also I've gotten some great d-x at night The generator funtion seems as advertised, the crank stores well opens easy locks in well enough and turns smooth, although it does take some force, theres a switch on the bach to toggel between AAA's or generator pack The light funtions are the least well thought out portion of this unit, thay both work as avertised but the placment is wrong,,,the flashlight is ok,bright enough to see across the room or down the hall but a bit thin for out side ,,a well defined path maby but probibly nothing obstructed, but the night light blinds your view of the dial I've looked under the night light cover and if thay had left out 1 plastic wall and a piece of foil the dial would have been backlit,, as it is I need to use another flash light to see the dial ,just silly,,,once my eyes adjust to darkness the night light is enough to doodle while I listen and find my water,so it has it's uses, but pointed up its not enough to read by, a strongly backlit dial would have been better ,,, the lights turn them selves off if you switch between battery banks or after some period of time ,,,,,ask me how I know this
The cons.....I guess I've mostly covered these ,but heres the list ,,,cant see the dial in the dark with two built in lights ,lower than average volume ,no stereo output ,old fasioned ear phone jack, wont handel buds or headphones, the light switches ,battery selector and radio switch all get moved in my pack thus leaving me on generator more than once untill I could get to fresh AAA"s,,I finaly just quit carrying it around in my pack . the bad review this littlt radio got is Amazons fault the ad copy thay used is for feachers on the japenese version of this radio witch has t.v. band and a cell phone charger nither of witch is available on the U.S. model ,,,the cell charger cable only has two adapters ,,it would never work here and the tuning looked way more cramped ,, to find all this I had to go to sony japan and use google to translate the page ,,she probibly dident go that far ,,I can be a little obsessive so I read everything I could find on this radio ...changing the search terms from bo1 to b01 got me the japenese details,,,go figure
All in all this is a great little radio ,I regulary get am. 150 mi. away in the day time over hilly terrain and at night I get utah and nevada regualary ,its shape allows for a longer am antenna, the fm sounds great and reseption is good also the resistive tuning keeps the tuner from getting bumped ,this little radio followes me all over the house and camper and I look for a long friendship as sonys hold up well,,,life is good
