Product Description
The DESA - Remington Cordless PowerMower with PowerSelect Technology Model #MPS6017A will make your lawn attractive looking with out the noise of a gas mower or the pollution. The PowerSelect Technology is a new approach to electric power. You now have a choice between a powerful 60 volt battery or corded electric operation - you choose how much power you want. Mow your lawn with the convenience and freedom of battery power or, plug--it--in if your battery is not charged or you require additional suction for lawn debris. In corded mode, cutting thick grass or leaves is a simple as turning the PowerSelect dial. This mower also features an integrated charger - just plug it in, dial-in the charging mode and the battery will begin re-charging itself. The mower achieves the same blade speed found in gasoline powered walk--behind mowers. It runs on electricity costing only pennies per use. Go cordless with the 60 volt sealed lead acid battery for up to 60 minutes of run time and enjoy the ultimate freedom of maneuverability. The battery can be removed and additional batteries can be purchased to extend run time. The mower weighs only 60 lbs. and easy to maneuver with larger rear wheels. It is lighter in weight than many other battery operated mowers. It features a 17" cutting blade diameter and an easy to empty grass collection bag. A single lever height adjustment sets the cutting height for all four wheels with 8 different settings available. It has 3 mowing options capabilities; bagging, mulching and an optional side discharge chute is available. It has a convenient bale handle starting system that is found on similar gas mowers. Product comes with a 2 year limited warranty. DESA Remington Technology Today for a Greener Tomorrow. 4 out of 5 stars Best in class from an experienced user   October 5, 2008
    D. Hazlett
I've owned this for about 2 month now. Previously, I used a battery powered Sunlawn reel mower which is basically a Brill. This far better for the following reasons:

    1. Battery is much more powerful. I have a medium sized lawn, and it has never died before I finished.
    2. The grass catcher actually works, an achievement for battery powered mowers.
    3. The mower height adjustment works effortlessly and provides a wide range which is also unusual in this class.
    4. The cut exactly like a gas powered mower. My reel mower left wisps all over and required double mowing.
    5. Noise, and fumes obviously, are greatly reduced over a gas-powered mower. I even prefer the low hum to the high pitched shear that my other battery powered reel mower produced.

I have Zoysia in the front and Bermuda in the side and back. Zoysia can be tough if you aren't able to mow every week, but I haven't had any issues even when I couldn't mow for two weeks due to rain.

I highly recommend this mower... I feel that this mower moves the cordless electric mower forward to a viable option for those who want less mess (oil, gas), less noise, and don't want to compromise either their time or the look of their lawn.

The only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 is that one of the wheels wobbled a bit upon delivery. It has not impacted the performance, but I felt that it should not have done that out of the box.

My only regret is that I bought a second battery. I haven't needed it. Try it out first and see if it can handle the size of your lawn before buying a second battery.

3 out of 5 stars Needs some refinement   October 4, 2008

When I first operated the mower after charging it up it didnt work. I discovered that the battery wires were not connected to the batteries. After connecting the wires the mower was working intermittingly. I discovered that the contacts for the battery to the motor were not connecting. To make the connection I had to place some carbord under the battery housing to make the power connection complete. After all of this was completed the lawn mower worked flawlessly. So it appears that the Remmington company has some quailty control issues with this mower. I recomend that they place a power gauge somewhere on the mower to determine how much of a charge is left in the battery. If they address these problems they will have a much better product. That is why I gave it 3 stars and not 5.

    2 out of 5 stars A disappointment   September 29, 2008

We bought this at the beginning of the season, and at first it was nice because of how quiet the mower was, and I was happy I didn't have to deal with maintenance. Not happy with the cost of the long extension cord, but you really need it to give extra power. Our lot is only a total of .3 acres, so running it on battery should have been a breeze. Unfortunately, it loses power near the end of the run and sometimes must be plugged back in to recharge before I can finish it.

I've been irritated with the low quality of the construction; front legs keep falling off, it's all just plastic so nothings stays together well. Last mowing, the screw worked loose on the handle, and the front legs won't stay on. And it takes a long time for the blades to stop so you have to be careful turning it over or you will get cut! Mower motor starts even with the key out.

Sure do regret buying this thing, but it seems the best of a bad lot. Apparently the Black and Decker is worse.

1 out of 5 stars Built Cheap   September 9, 2008

I have had this mower for over three months and it has finally, ticked me off enough to write about this mower, It's poorly built, the grass catcher is mad out of the metal and is very cheap, the basket falls apart now after each dumping of what little clippings it does catch, the machine cloggs up easy . takes twice as long to mow my lawn verse using my old gas craftmen mower. it's a good thing I kept my old mower, because i would be mowerless. the cordless Remington clogs up and shuts off alot, this has happpen since i've own the mower when I called for a refund they told me I was already past my time,(by 15 day) and that I would have to take it to one of there dealers to take a look at it.But no refund just replacement parts.mower still Sucks.

2 out of 5 stars Poor quality control.   September 8, 2008

The machine arrived missing a second bolt and nut from the wheel height adjusting handle. I was unable to set the cutting height because the weight of the machine would just cause it to slide down to it's lowest level. I contacted the technical support people who shipped the missing parts to me.

The parts arrived in about a week. It was a bit of a struggle to install that missing bolt but I got it in.

Now that I can adjust it's cutting height the machine is performing as advertised (I really like the battery operation and haven't had to use a cord yet) but there is one other minor problem: it affects my DSL line when it is plugged-into an ac outlet in my garage charging the battery. I've installed a ferrite choking core on to the ac cord and this has helped somewhat.
