Good monitor July 24, 2008 Lanion I actually traded in my WiiFit to buy this product.
The weight is very accurate, however the bodyfat and skeletal muslce measurement have a fairly large degree of error. This is due to the fact that your are supposed to hold you arms out at 90 degrees with bent arms -- however how much you bend your arms changes the reading by several %. Given that most scales with body fat measurements do not even give you measurements for skeletal muscle, a rating for mid-section fat, and a resting metabolism, this complaint is rather minor.
In the defence of the measurements, if you can be consistant about the angle of your arms this should be a non-issue. Combined with the fact that the hand-sensor is supposed to eliminate error caused by shifting water-weight throughout the day, I imagine this scale is as accurate as they come. I recommend it for measurements +- 3%, especially for people in workout programs -- everyone should know that building muscle can actually INCREASE your BMI but decrease your body fat, which is much more important.
excellent scale, bogus fat monitor July 22, 2008 A. Meller (Union City, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using this device for 2 years now. The good about this tool is scale that is extremely precise and gives 100% reproducible results.
As for body fat monitor, I believe it is a bogus. According to the description, they run some low-voltage electricity through your legs and compute fat level based on that. But here is my personal experience. I lost over 50 pounds within a year, and logged my mass and fat percentage daily. Body fat was reducing together with my mass, which is very predictable. Once I was 150 pounds I made a simple experiment and measured my body fat while holding 2 20-pound dumb-bells in my hands. Since the current is run through your legs, you would not expect that these weights in my hands would affect the reading, but the tool displayed my body fat number PRECISELY the same as I had when I was 190 pound. In other words, this number is not really measured, it is just calculated based on your height (which you entered in the profile) and your measured mass. To confirm my conclusion another way, I used Microsoft Excel and drew a graph of dependency between my mass and body fat percentage as shown by the scale. The line appeared ideally straight which is only possible if one number is derived from another rather than measured independently.
The bottom line here is: if you just want excellent scale for this price, it is a good choice, but don't count on body fat measurement.
Great scale, good value for price. July 21, 2008 Joshua Katz (Fountain Valley, CA) Scale works well for weight and is consistent and easy to use. The only drawback is the body fat % seems to be a bit inaccurate. It is still a good value for the price and is stylish (for a scale).
Maybe I got a lemon? July 18, 2008 tommyboy (the Tollbooth State) Inconsistent readings. Plus or minus up to 2 pounds in successive tests. Not so reliable.
Best scale July 16, 2008 D. C. Cramer (Owings Mills, MD) Over the years my wife and I have had several scales none of which were close to accurate. This scale is not only accurate (the same weight as my doctor's scale) it provides additional information and a memory so that you can compare your results to the previous day, week, month.
