2 out of 5 stars Not Impressed   November 22, 2008

Read all the great reviews of this game and made the purchase, but not at all impressed. Yes, it is very creative and original. But the game play is tedious and not particularly engaging.

5 out of 5 stars Worth buying.   November 21, 2008

Great game, gorgeous graphics and sounds. I'm into all the RE2, COD, Brothers in Arms and Dead Space type games, but this FPS is very unique and worth playing just to experience the unique gameplay. This is not a game that you should miss if you own the PS3. Every review here is accurate. There was one reviewer concerned about the respawning. IF you don't respawn you will never finish the game and it will become tedious. I started off at the medium level, recommended for those who are familiar with FPS. Tomorrow I'll begin at the hard level. Now the Amazon price is down to $44, its a no brainer what you should do. I haven't played Fallout 3 and am expecting RE5, but so far this is keeping me very busy and happy. Great job 2K.

5 out of 5 stars A masterpiece worthy of every minute of your time spent!   November 20, 2008

Everything you have read about this game is true. The visuals, story, gameplay all come together in an impressive fashion. While this game doesn't do any one of these things above and beyond other titles, assembled together it is an absolutely exceptional piece of work that any FPS/RPG fan should NOT miss!

FYI - the "save anywhere" feature really helps make this game even better!

Took me about an hour to get into this game and all I can say is WOW! I am very glad they released this great game on PS3 because I don't own an XBOX 360. Hooked on this game!!

5 out of 5 stars a brilliant game   November 16, 2008

I'm on my second go thru this game after a very brief interlude with resistance 2. This game is what all games should be measured against. I loved system shock 2 which I suppose is the true granddaddy of this game. That was a miraculous pc game with great sound, graphics and story. I'll never know why it took so long to adapt that game for newer consoles. But so be it. They did the game justice and it's flat out brilliant and wonderful in every respect. The graphics and sound are truly astounding on this platform. It even has you jumping a little when surprised or shocked by some sudden sound or enemy appearance. The designers created an intricate and complex world and have told a compelling and well crafted story. I turned to this game a second time around after quickly finishing an uninspired and disappointing sequel to one of my prior ps3 faves, resistance 1. I'm enjoying bioshock the second time around very much. Sure, I now know some of the tricks of the trade so there are fewer surprises and the game play is much quicker in that regard. But I now get to explore more of this same fascinating world on a harder difficulty setting while changing some of my initial and ongoing choices and gaining new abilities along the way. And there was so much created in this game that I am exploring many areas that I simply didn't notice or failed to explore the first time around. I hope the people responsible for this effort recognize just how much they did right. While other games inexplicably limit you to two weapons at a time, bioshock allows you access to the entire arsenal of weapons and abilities. While other games have lame stories with, at times, interminable bad acting in cut scenes, this game has great voice acting that complements and furthers a truly great story quite well. While other games are linear in that you simply run along a straight and clearly marked path killing everything you come across, this game provides a world to explore with hidden objects, tasks, puzzles and intelligent game changing choices. What other game allows you to go back to prior completed levels during the same game? They've created a world with such incredible detail and so many possibilities that it's worth going back to prior completed levels just to see what you missed. I'm currently re-exploring the earlier levels and I've found several safes, rooms, objects and abilities that I missed even the second time around. To be sure, you do get to kill a lot of things along the way in many different and very inventive ways. But there is much more to this game than simply running along the predestined path and killing. It really does require intelligence and thought to play. This is a truly great game.
