Hands-down the BEST standup comedian in a long, long time August 31, 2008 Michael Magallon (LA, CA, USA!) I feel that C.Rock is the best standup comedian today for several reasons. 1. He is not afraid of calling out his own race on relevant social issues. 2. He is not afraid of telling it like it is with women and relationships. 3. He does NOT rely on profanity & raunchy comedy like R.Pryor, or anti-white racism like E.Murphy to get laughs.
"it's funny 'cause it's true," homer simpson July 16, 2008 MAG Chris Rock is my hero! This is some of the funniest stuff ever put on film/wax. I heard some of it again just yesterday (partially also available on the CD "Roll with the New") as I was driving, and was laughing so hard I had to turn it off after I made a wrong turn. A set of classic material that is a must-have for any Chris Rock fan - or fan of stand-up comedy in general. Tip: use extreme caution in the re-telling of some of the segments. It's best left to Chris Rock.
very good July 12, 2008 Nicholas (Portland, OR USA) This disc is very good. Rock's energy on 'Bigger and Blacker' is more electric though. By the last one he did in 2004 (I forget the name) he sort of feels like he's slowing down.
This disc is great though.
Not nearly as good as Never Scared or Bigger & Blacker August 2, 2007 Desiree (Seattle, Washington) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm such a huge Chris Rock fan that I had to see everything that he has done. I guess this was his first HBO special and to me, it really showed. He has evolved so much as a comedian over the last decade that his early material seems weak and pales in comparison. About thirty minutes into the show I wanted to turn it off, but having paid full price for the dvd I decided to stick it out. Parts are amusing, but in general this show just isn't funny. Save your money, save your time, and see his later HBO specials that are much better.
CHANGING THE FACE OF COMEDY July 11, 2007 Rock this (Derby, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is no secret that Chris Rock is a genius, a talented story teller and a hilarious person, but this piece of work is absolutely stellar. He addressed serious issues without kids gloves, the brilliance of it is that people laughed even though he was not treating the matters addressed lightly. He completely changed the face of stand-up comedy with this one. He did what others before him dare not do one of which was to address the glaring issue of ignorance amongst fellow black people. I am black and I appreciated this because this is what we all think but never say for the fear of being labelled stuck up or traitors. This is a brilliant, brilliant piece of work that will live on long after Chris is gone. I take my hat of to him. He is a brave, courageous, immensley talented, intelligent, articulate and hugley funny black man.
