Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder 60 minutes July 4, 2008 Miriam Allenson (Palisades Park, NJ) This is an excellent product for someone who is not altogether tech savvy. You point, shoot, and film. The directions are easy to understand, even for uploading to your hard drive. It's easy and fun to make a mix and then send by email or share publicly. Only the editing process leaves a little to be desired. You can generally only cut on a per second basis, which means you may miss the very end of a sequence or include something you don't want. But for the Flip's pricetag you can't really expect it to be state of the art.
For grandparents who live far away from their grandchildren, it's a great way to make sure the grandchildren don't forget what you look like (especially if you don't see them very often). You make little minute or two videos about something they're going to be interested in, send, and then find lots more to talk about when you're on the phone with them besides how they're doing in school.
Great for capturing spontaneous video moments! July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this camera as a gift for my daughter, who always wanted to play with my much more expensive Sony camcorder. She is 7 years old, and she loves it! It is so easy to operate, that she was able to master the controls in minutes. Because of its relatively cheap price, I basically let her have full control of it, and after about two weeks or so, noticed that she captured some amazingly funny and delightful moments with her younger sister. It was easy to download and save the videos to be uploaded to vimeo.com, to be distributed among family members, etc. The quality of the video is good enough for web/e-mail distribution, and certainly better than most cell phone capture of videos. It is so good that I have decided to buy my own, so that I can carry it around with me. First use would be to mount it inside my car during my long roadtrip from Alaska to Washington, DC. Then, perhaps I'll have it with me during my bike commutes just in case. It might be great for accident documentation, potentially even medical use. For the money, it's a great tool.
FREE Shipping.... Still waiting........ July 3, 2008 TXStudent (TX USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Today is Day 11 from the day I ordered this product. Today, the status of the shipment shows that it has finally left the Hazelton, MO post office, the same place the shipment originated.
I realize I took the "free shipping" method to save a few bucks, but in no way did I expect this thing to get put on absolute bottom priority. What a joke! The distance between the originating town and the place it is to be delivered is 14 (FOURTEEN) miles!!!! And yet, it still is in transit.
With this much delay, and having been somewhere at the bottom of a stack of boxes marked for the slow boat to China, I am wondering how much damage has occurred. Guess I'll find out soon. This was a gift.
Needless to say, if Amazon's "free shipping" means this level of quality, it won't mean anything. Meaning, if another company offers the same product for the same price or lower, and I have to pay for shipping, I might as well since this "free shipping" can not be trusted. Get it together Amazon. Don't make your "free shipping" look like a great deal when you're sticking your customers with unreasonable delays.
Excellent Video Camera July 3, 2008 The Mom (Cleveland, OH United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this for our 11 year old son's birthday. He was able to make great videos on his own and then upload them to my mac and watch them on the t.v. with the cables provided. He was also able to edit the videos quite easily. The quality was great! This was definitely one of the best gifts he has gotten. I plan on borrowing it when I don't want to carry my larger camcorder!
Easy to use, simple and portable July 3, 2008 Jeannie (Central Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While the Flip Video isn't for serious video-philes, it is a great little camera. Simple to use, you can keep it in your pocket or purse and be ready for any moment. It easily connects to the computer and voila, you have your adventures ready to share. The quality is fine for everyday events. It records for one hour, plenty of time. The two AA batteries last longer in the Flip than in my Nikon digital (still) camera. One small shortcoming was the software is compatible with Windows only, so with a Mac, I had to use I-movie. Great camera for the price.
